Things to Know About Invisalign

Posted by Danielle Wehle Feb 28,2023

At Willow Glen Dental Care, Invisalign uses a series of custom-made aligners using 3D computer imaging to fit your teeth exactly. You switch out your aligner every two weeks for the next one in the series. You can see your progress as your teeth gradually move into position. You can’t remove the brackets and wires attached to your teeth with traditional braces. Invisalign is nearly invisible when worn! The aligners are also removable, which makes them easy to clean and maintain. There are no food restrictions with Invisalign either since you can remove them when you eat. Invisalign is an excellent treatment option for teens and adults who want to improve the appearance of their smiles without the hassle of metal braces.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment and adequately space them. Each aligner you wear is custom-designed for your mouth and shifts your smile incrementally until the desired results are achieved. While you’ll wear each aligner for about two weeks before switching to the next one in the series, the aligners can be removed to eat, brush, floss, and clean your aligners. That allows you to maintain your oral hygiene routine without interference from your orthodontic treatment.

Every two weeks, patients switch out their current aligner with the next one in their series, with a slightly different shape that will continue to shift the teeth into the desired position. We’ll also perform any necessary adjustments to keep your smile on track. The entire process should take about twelve months on average. After treatment, you’ll have a beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime!

The Advantages of Invisalign

There are a variety of advantages that you’ll see when you choose Invisalign. The first is comfort. Since the aligners are clear, they’re virtually invisible, so that you can wear them confidently throughout the day or night. And because they’re removable, you can usually eat and drink whatever you like and clean your teeth. This also means you don’t have to worry about getting food stuck in your braces.

Since there are no uncomfortable brackets or wires, you also don’t have to worry about irritations to your mouth from metal against your lips and cheeks. Additionally, you won’t have to worry about cuts on your gums from the metal wires or pokes from sharp brackets when you brush your teeth.
