Invisalign is a series of clear, plastic aligners that straighten your teeth without wires or brackets. A series of custom-made trays are worn for 20 to 22 hours per day, only removing them to eat, drink, brush and floss. Your teeth will gradually shift into their optimal position as you change out your aligner trays about every two weeks. Patients typically only need to visit their dentist about every four to six weeks to monitor progress and ensure treatment is going smoothly.
The plastic aligners are virtually invisible when they are being worn. This means they won’t draw unwanted attention to your mouth while straightening your smile. Plus, you won’t have to worry about uncomfortable metal appliances and wires irritating the inside of your mouth. Also, because the aligners can be removed at any time, you don’t have to worry about dietary restrictions like with traditional braces. Simply remove your tray before eating and enjoy your favorite foods without restrictions. Drinking is also much easier with a removable device because you can remove the trays before enjoying your morning coffee, red wine or soda.

An impression is taken of your bite, which is used to make your custom aligner. Aligners should be worn most of the day, but can be removed to eat and to brush and floss your teeth. Every two weeks you change to the next aligner in the series. Over time, the aligners move your teeth to their correct positions gradually and gently. Because there are no metal brackets or wires to adjust, you will visit your orthodontist less frequently -- typically every four to six weeks.
During treatment, you will be wearing a new set of aligners every two weeks as prescribed. These aligners are removable and should be worn at least 22 hours per day for the best results. You may remove them for cleaning and eating. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position that Dr. Dang has prescribed. You’ll visit The Dental Studio about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to fifteen months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between eighteen and thirty two, but both will vary from case to case.
Once you’ve completed your Invisalign treatment, retainers are an option to ensure that your teeth remain in their new positions. Some patients may need them for a short period of time, while others may need to wear them for years.

### Understanding Perpetual Retainers
A very common question we hear is “What happens if I lose my retainer?” or “How long do I have to wear my retainers for?” To answer these questions, it is important to understand the difference between retention
Yes, most dental insurance plans cover Invisalign. Most coverage includes the cost of Invisalign up to $3,500 per treatment year. However, some insurance plans may place an annual maximum benefit on the patient’s orthodontic benefits. If the patient reaches the annual maximum, the insurance will not cover any further orthodontic treatment that year. The patient will be responsible for the remaining costs.
In addition, some insurance companies may not cover Invisalign at all. In these cases, patients are responsible for the costs related to the treatment. Patients should discuss their insurance coverage with their dentist to find out if they are eligible to use Invisalign.

Invisalign can help fix a wide range of minor to moderate misalignments, including crossbite, underbite, overbite, overcrowding, and gaps between teeth. It can also help address some bite issues and jaw pain associated with TMJ disorders. However, it can’t correct major orthodontic issues or severely crooked teeth. If your teeth are significantly misaligned, your dentist may recommend traditional braces instead.
In addition, aligners can’t treat all oral health concerns. For example, if your teeth are stained due to age, medications, genetics, or a combination of factors, the aligners won’t make those stains disappear. You’ll still need to whiten your teeth after aligners have made your teeth straighter. (You can learn more about how whitening works and why it’s an important part of orthodontic treatment here.)
It’s also important to note that wearing Invisalign aligners will take a little getting used to. The aligners are made out of smooth plastic that slips on and off easily, but you’ll probably have a slight lisp when you first start wearing them. You may also feel pressure against your teeth at first, but this should fade as you get used to wearing the aligners. If you’re feeling any discomfort that isn’t normal, let your dentist know right away. With the right care, your aligners should stay in fine working condition throughout treatment. While you can expect to have a new set of aligners every two weeks, the lifespan of each one is several months. That means you won’t have to switch them out as regularly as you would with some other aligner systems.
If Invisalign sounds like the right option for you, the next step is to schedule an initial consultation at your local dentist’s office. During your appointment, your dentist will check your mouth to make sure there aren’t any oral health issues that need to be addressed before you start using aligners. Then, they’ll take X-rays and digital impressions of
